Shyamalan's The Last Airbender using footage from the show [ATLA][Fan Content]
So I was thinking about recutting Shyamalan's disaster, but the more I thought about it I realized there's just about nothing redeemable in this movie. The Zuko and Iroh scenes are okay at best, but nothing else comes anywhere close to working.
Then, I realized there was a much easier way to make an Avatar movie: just use the footage from the show. Essentially, create a remake of The Last Airbender using the TV show as the basis. Not only would this make for a far superior movie, it would be a massive fuck you to Shyamalan. All those times he said that it was impossible to please the fans, that it was a hard movie to make, and here we'd have hard proof that he's a shitty director. "European style" my ass.
Bitterness aside, here's my rough guesstimate as to how it might look
Boy in the Iceberg- Uncut
The Avatar Returns- Uncut
The Southern Air Temple- When Aang enters the Avatar state, cut in his encounter with Fang from The Winter Solstice Part 1
Scenes of the Gaang romping around the Earth Kingdom battling the fire nation (Imprisoned, Warriors of Kyoshi, etc)
The Blue Spirit- Mostly uncut, some tweaks may be needed for continuity
The Waterbending Master- See above
The Siege of the North Part 1- When Aang enters the Spirit World, cut to Roku's scenes from The Winter Solstice Part 2
The Siege of the North Part 2- Mostly uncut, some tweaks may be needed for continuity
I think this could work really well. By my rough guesstimate, this should come in at 2h30m to 3h. Obviously, you can't cut a series of 3 movies from the show using this as your basis for Book 1, for one thing, Suki is too important to Book 3 to remove her altogether, but as a one off project to give Shyamalan the middle finger or to introduce someone to the series, I don't think it's bad at all. My main concern is that I don't know how well the Roku and Fang sequences would fit in with the way I outlined it, they may need to be cut altogether. What do you guys think?
