I think my GPU died; need to know for sure.

  • Operating System: Windows 10
  • Motherboard: MSI Z87-GD65 Gaming
  • Graphics Card: Gigabyte Windforce GTX 680

Last night was just another normal night of gaming. I had World of Warcraft open on one monitor and Twitch open on the other monitor. I had alt tabbed out of game to check a message I had received and when I tabbed back in my screen freaked out and flickered. After the flickering stopped, I heard the sounds of the gaming going on but saw nothing on both monitors. I restarted my computer but it wouldn't go past the Windows 10 loading screen. I some how managed to boot my PC in safe mode to see if the problem persisted but everything was fine there.

I tried to normally boot my computer again and this time I got passed the Win10 loading and actually got to load up everything. As soon as everything loaded up, screen flickered and computer restarted. The same thing kept happening over and over; with the constant reboots and freezes I got two separate BSOD.

  1. VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE
  2. VIDEO SCHEDULER INTERAL ERROR

Sadly I can not provide a dump report on those BSOD. I tried switching the GPU to a different PCI port but the problem remained the same. I also used DDU to uninstall and clean up my NVidia drivers and try to give it a clean installation with the most recent driver (Failed) as well as back to a driver that worked for me (Failed). When trying to install the drivers, the screen would flicker like normal GPU Driver installation do but in mid flicker, the computer would just reboot and wont go passed the Win10 Login. Right now I am using my computer with the on board GPU and trying to solve this Scooby-Doo mystery. If the video card is dead, I just have to wait till next week for the GTX 1080 which is fine, but I would like to understand whats going on if you guys can help out. Thank you!
