Attack Speed VS Fire Rate

So I'm curious if gear that buffs "attack speed" also works for regular gun weapons like Oscar Mike's Rifle or Mellka's pistol, or is that just for characters who have non traditional guns like Rath or Boulder? Also where would a character like Miko or Isic fall, are their weapons considered "guns" or just "weapons"?..
