[spoilers] Confused about S2E11 - the ending

So the Blacksmith's boat explodes. But why did ALL of the men shooting at the boat die? They were about 30 feet away and we're expected to believe they somehow ALL die from an explosion that wasn't powerful enough to even sink the ship? After other guys are taking dozens of bullets die, a bunch of dudes are killed from, what, hot wind?
