Please pardon my emptiness
Please pardon my emptiness,
but I’m a mess.
I would offer you a chair,
but I have no seats.
I have lovely guests often,
but they don’t stay long.
It’s the barren walls and
standing up, that drives
them all away.
Please pardon the emptiness,
but I’m in the process of moving;
in or out, I can’t recall, but I have
no time for cleaning.
I would offer you a drink,
but my glasses are broken,
and the water has been shut off,
and I have finished all the liquor.
You simply came at a bad time.
Please pardon this emptiness,
I assure you that I’m feeling.
I have no windows to look out of,
but I’m certain the sun would be
shining.
I am certain the clouds would still
make shapes, and I think I could still
identify them.
Yeah, I could probably identify them.
Please pardon such emptiness,
but it was never filled to begin with.
I wandered in and so did they, and
so it all seemed to be working. I never
knew what the emptiness looked like,
as I stood in the doorway, facing outside,
holding signs for others to come in. Enjoy
the tour, and thanks for playing, but this is
where our game must end.
