An Understanding

If you don't want to fall in love again,
I understand. Because I know the taste
of love that burns is just like ash, that pain
is just a word until it hits, that haste  
will hack the open heart just like a knife.  
So you don't have to come with explanations,
Or place me in the center of your life--  
I understand...I've had my reservations.  
But I found courage there within your eyes,
And now I have a different sort of view.
I've given up on love so many times,
When all I ever wanted here was you.  
And all I want to do is hold your hand.  
Say yes, say no, and I will understand.
