Totality
Falling from the sky,
In came the vampiric Totality.
Parting the clouds
And opening his jaw wide,
He sunk his sharp teeth -
Dripping with venom -
Into the young world below.
And around its teeth
Men built tall temples
Of gold and steel -
Pumping more venom
Into the bleeding ground
To please the menacing Goliath
As it stretched its salivating maw
Over and beyond the new cities
To conquer and consume
The surrounding fruitful fields,
The deep and vast oceans,
The million-acre taiga forests,
And the northern mountains
That endlessly stretched both
East and west.
In the cities,
The ground had dried grey
As venom festered
In the veins of the world.
People became quieter,
Bodies drained of colour
And soon the thick haze of the Beast’s breath
Overflowed the new factories.
Seemingly eternally,
The new king of the world
Stretched over what is now his;
Moulding, and edifying it
According to the design
Of a mighty civilisation -
Of a brave new world...
