[No Spoilers] I posted this as a comment yesterday, it was suggested that I make a self post. Here is just how involved Guggenheim has been.
As everyone knows, Marc Guggenheim's name is the one attached to Arrow as primary showrunner. He's the one that takes flak for the decisions made and the direction the show has gone. But just how involved has he actually been?
As many people know, a show's showrunners get credited as executive producers. They typically show up at the end of the production credits. What I found while looking at Arrow's production credits on IMDB was surprising.
Through the first 62 episodes of Arrow, Marc Guggenheim was credited as an executive producer on 60 of them. He was a (or the) showrunner. The show's 62nd episode, "The Offer" (S03E16), marks the last time Marc Guggenheim regularly received credit as an executive producer. In the 30 episodes since, he's been credited as an executive producer exactly twice - on "Green Arrow" (S04E01), and on "Monument Point" (S04E21). The numbers, by season, are:
- Season 1 (21): 1-17, 19, 21-23
- Season 2 (23): 1-23
- Season 3 (16): 1-16
- Season 4 (2): 1, 21
Now, in comparison, Greg Berlanti has received credit as executive producer on 23 of those 30 episodes (the entirety of season 4; they, too, were left off the end of season 3). Andrew Kreisberg? He's been credited as executive producer on all 30 episodes. Wendy Mericle? She, too, has been credited as executive (or co-executive) producer on all 30.
I know everyone's upset with the direction the show has gone. I'm no different. But we've got some pretty hard evidence here to suggest that Marc Guggenheim hasn't been a showrunner, let alone the primary showrunner, in 14 months. The only thing he's receiving regular credit for is being one of the show's creators ("Developed by").
