[No Spoilers] Tips for destroying rift nodes without Dispel or Spell Purge?

A while back, I recall reading about how rift nodes could also be attacked to destroy them before spawning demons. Since I was unable to actually target nodes with attacks, I ignored the advice. Then last night, I happened to notice that I could indeed target nodes while in Tactical view. I had wished for the longest time that my archer Inquisitor could also shut nodes down, so it was awesome to demolish one with Full Draw.

However, I noticed that Tactical View can be finicky. When I've switched to another character, sometimes the attack on my archer doesn't actually follow through. I do this on occasion to get Cassandra into position for Spell Purge. Any tips on getting this to work while switching to other characters for a brief moment? I also welcome any other tips on destroying nodes without Dispel or Spell Purge!
