Best way to feed unspooled filament?

It's very frustrating to feed unspooled filament (at least, it is for me). The loops constantly become tangled and I can't leave the printer unattended. Any suggestions?

Note: I always buy spooled filament, in general, but I like to order multi-color packs sometimes just so I have at least a small amount of a wide range of colors on hand.
