Can I get cable internet without a modem?

I currently have Verizon FIOS (ethernet) that connects to my R7000 router.

I'm canceling FIOS and getting Comcast.....can I connect it directly to the R7000 without a modem? Is SB6190 the best modem available?

Ideally, I like to put the router (and modem) in the basement. The installer is coming Tuesday, will they be able to bring/drill a line into the basement? Currently the basement has some sort of FIOS box and battery.
