[Help] First cosplay for a convention in November; Maccha Green, a hero in a full bodysuit and mask (Rolling Girls)
Hi r/cosplayers! I'm preparing for a local con in 5-6 months, and I wanted to go as character from one of my favorite underappreciated series, The Rolling Girls. I chose Maccha Green because her outfit is simple (only three or so colors) but very cool, and there aren't many important male characters in the series. Maccha Green is actually a woman, but her suit seems pretty gender-neutral.
From what I can tell, her outfit consists of ten things I'll need to somehow make, including her:
- mask (It seems stiff in the anime. It keeps its shape even when she removes it, and bounces when it falls)
- visor (I don't know what I'll do about this. It seems to be a semi-transparent blue-green material, and I wonder how I'll attach it to the mask in an aesthetically pleasing way)
- leaf-type forehead crest (Can I make this out of paper-mache? Is that tacky? Probably.)
- scarf (Probably my favorite part of the costume. Seems like it'll be simple to make too, just dye the tip of a large white bandana pink in the shape of a heart. It'd be nice if there was some way I could make the ends stay standing like in the concept art too. Could it be as simple as hairspray(lol) or just the way I tie it?)
- bodysuit (It appears to be one piece, both shirt and pants. Maybe it'd be easier to make them separate though, so that none of the shirt's stripe shows up under the belt)
- belt
- side pouch (attached to the belt)
- gloves
- wrist communicator (I might 3D print this and attach it to a cheap Apple watch strap)
- boots (Maccha's boots are high heels, but being a guy, I'd probably die walking in them and would be more comfortable in regular boots. Are boots difficult to hand make?)
Here's the back of her costume too.
I'll appreciate any advice that comes my way and respond to any comments. Some information that may or may not be relevant: I'm 6 feet and one inch tall, relatively slim build, in case that affects the sewing or anything. The convention is fairly far in the future. Also, like the title says, I'm very new to all this, so if there's anything I can buy at a moderate price, that'd help me out in case something's too difficult to make. I have a friend to help me out with sewing.
One concern I had was how stuffy a bodysuit could probably be. In fact, Maccha had to deal with that problem in the first episode. Is there any material you could recommend that breathes well? If it's expensive, I could use really good material for the mask, and other material for the rest of the suit. If there are any other tricks that help with a costume's breathability, please let me know, and thank you for reading through all of this!
