Me [22M], after a somewhat recent extremely bad breakup, I find myself uninterested in relationships for the first time in my life, and I've also become very unsympathetic.
To sum up a long story and give you a bit of back story, "Taylor" and I had been dating for some time. We had dreams of getting married, kids, the whole nine yards. I moved half way across the country so we could live together as I knew how important her family was to her and I didn't want to pull her away from them. Now Taylor had a LDR with a guy named "Jack", prior to us dating. Jack was also my best friend of about nine years. Well they split up as Jack was just using her to keep himself entertained while he was still enlisted, and Taylor wanted a serious long term relationship.
A bit of time goes by and Taylor and I become good friends as I help her deal with her grief over Jack, I know it sounds like BS but I honestly wanted to help her, I definitely did have romantic feelings for her but I also considered her a friend as she was there for me in a dark time of my life. Well time goes on and her and I realize we have feelings for each other, I eventually visit her down the road and after a while we have discussions of living together as flying half way across the country isn't exactly feasible and neither of us wanted a LDR. I know we probably moved too fast and yadayadayada.
Well we live together and for a time everything is great, it was by far the happiest time of my life. One day we have a sort of argument. No yelling or shouting though. Basically when she would get home she would always jump into my arms and I'd carry her over to the bed, we'd play wrestle or sometimes cuddle. Well one day she blows up. She's beyond pissed because I accidentally pressed her stomach too hard which had happened a few times before but there was a VERY large difference in size and I never intended on it happening as she was about 5'0" and I'm about 6'4" and probably closer to 300 than 200. Well she sort of shuts down emotionally the whole day and I decide to go for an hour walk to cool off and give her some space. She tells me the next day she wants to break up. This is a rather long story so I'm going to speed things up. We mostly remain friends the next two or so weeks until I leave back for home. The first day home we call each other and she cries hysterically a few times and says she wants us to stay together, she's just not ready to live together. A month goes by and she is extremely mean and spiteful and downright hateful at times. She also tells me that she's been talking to Jack since the night we argued. I feel extremely uncomfortable with this and tell her that flat out I don't want them talking, Jack has had her wrapped around his finger ever since they met.
Well time goes by and we seem to be better but she accidentally drops that she's still talking to him and I'm furious, I was pleading with her not to talk to him last time and I talked to him and he promised to "totally tell you the next time she talks to me bro". Well a bit of time goes by and I blow up, she won't come clean about why she's talking to him. She just gets angry and tells me "don't worry I hate him" and "you don't have to trust him, trust me" every time I had previously brought the situation up, and I wasn't just attacking her as if she was cheating on me, I genuinely wanted to know. Well eventually she breaks up with me because she can't deal with someone so untrusting and she just doesn't love me anymore. I find out a few weeks later they're "reconnecting" because she still "cares deeply for him". A few weeks after that she tells me that they're living together and engaged. Let me clarify I was never once mean or spiteful after we split. I talked to her on two separate occasions as I wanted to see how she really felt, did she really hate me and so on and so forth, I just couldn't believe that the girl I fell in love with was gone and replaced by this monster. I skipped ahead a bit. When I first found out they were reconnecting, I also found out she told all of her friends that I sexually abused her which absolutely never happened, and my best friend of nine years told me to "fucking kill myself and do the world a favor. Fucking rot." As she had apparently told him I was struggling with thoughts of suicide. They were both just horribly disgusting human beings, the things that were said can never be taken back. I truly cannot convey how heartbreaking it was to see the sweet and caring woman I wanted to spend my life with do a complete 180° and become the worst person I've ever known. I truly believed until I met "her" that everyone could be persuaded, nobody was truly evil and vindictive, that everyone had some resemblance of humanity inside of them, those final few months with her she may as well have been a robot, I don't recall a single instance of her showing anything even resembling empathy. I blocked all contact with both of them and haven't looked back.
Now to my current problem, Taylor and I officially broke up about two months ago and I blocked both of them about a month ago. Since then I haven't had the slightest interest in any woman. I feel fine, I feel like I've been "over" her for about a month or so. I've had a couple of girls flinging themselves at me and all I can think is "no thanks". It's the only time in my life I've EVER felt like this and I don't know what to do. I know it's probably the "well you're just not ready to get into a relationship" but I don't know what to do. I WANT to care for these girls, whether that's as friends or something more, they helped me deal with the fallout of losing Taylor and Jack and I don't know what I'd have done without them.
But I just don't care about them. I WANT to care about them. I WANT to have feelings for them. But I just don't feel it, no matter how much I try to force it. Literally any other time in my life and I would be all over them. One of them also said something that struck a cord with me. Well two things actually. She said that she doesn't believe I'll ever get hurt again like I did, "because you won't put yourself in a position where something like that can happen". And she also told me that I'm not very sympathetic, which kind of bothered me. Prior to splitting with Taylor, I was always the shoulder to cry on for anyone that needed me, I know for a fact I was extremely compassionate and understanding (which eventually led to Taylor walking all over me before I stood up for myself, but that's besides the point). And I don't think she's wrong. I don't feel anything for them. I know this sounds like le edgy teen shit, but I just don't. One of the girls was talking to me about an abusive ex with tears in her eyes, and I honestly only could think "well..that sucks". Another girl was crying because she couldn't take how distant I am and I just didn't really care. And it breaks my heart because I don't want to be like this. I want to be compassionate with them, I want to care for them, I want them to mean something to me, I hate feeling so "meh" about them. And I just don't know what to do. I try and try and try and nothing changes, I just can't force myself to feel something for them and it terrifies me.
tl;dr: I had a extremely nasty break up and now have absolutely no feelings towards any of the women in my life, despite the fact that I would be all over them at literally any other point in my life, I'm also unsympathetic despite the fact that I try to be. I want to care for them, I want to have feelings for them, I want to be compassionate, but I just can't feel those feelings as of right now and I'm not sure why.
