Toriyama & Time

Why does Toriyama insist on writing stories where the time component is completely unbelievable. Fight with Frieza on Namek is 5 minutes?.. Cool lets make that 18 episodes. Vegeta will disappear in 3-5 minutes? Cool lets spend 3-5 minutes explaining what superhuman water is. Frieza needs to be as powerful as SSB Goku/Vegata.. cool let's say he trained for like 4 months. That'll make the fans happy. If he just didn't mention how long things took it would serve the story better.
