Getting OFF Benzo's and on a taper plan on the NHS is not easy. Here's some advice on how to do it.
If you want to get clean and off Benzo's, please take this advice, this might come in handy if you're one of those people who didn't stock up or whatever and you need to turn to the NHS for help, if you do you're most likely going to need this info as Benzo help is not out there, unless you get lucky. It's easier buying from a dealer in all honesty but if you can get on a taper plan it's so much easier as you don't have the risk of temptation, you have to fight through it.
Advice for anyone who needs to take this path
99% of GP's are clueless about RC Benzo's - On top of that they HATE prescribing benzo's as it is, and unless you find a younger GP who is trained in addiction and hence more clued up, you'll find most GP's will treat you like SCUM as soon as you mention that dirty word "Diazepam". On top of that most practices straight up refuse to prescribe them as it is up to the head of the practice in many cases. That's even if you are on a legit scripted benzo that needs refilling as you've ran out and have moved house for example.)
Here's my biggest piece of advice IF you truly want to get off Benzos and don't want to resort to buying from the darknet or street dealers - Don't even mention RC Benzo's as they will not be able to help you even if they are able to prescribe diazepam, you have no chance, as they legally can't prescribe you something to replace a drug that they can't verify due to the fact they can't confirm the potency of the RC Benzo's and will more than likely tell you that they don't even have benzodiazepines in them and if they do the dosage is not stable, so "prescribing you would be dangerous."
I'm not telling you do this ahem, but as you're going to need to 'fess up, (Piss test will show positive for benzos and they won't check it further) it will make your life easier to say you're addicted to Diazepam. Rather than saying "well m8, I'm on 8mg of flubromazepam, 10mg of Diclazepam, with a few etizolams here and there etc". I know you're not that stupid but you know what I mean. You could say this for example: I ended up taking them due to stress at work and depression. Do NOT mention any form of abuse (as in taking them recreationally). Just say it spiralled out of control and you need help. Because let's face it, if you're reading this and have gotten this far, you need it.
If you're young(ish) like below 30 and have an understanding parent, ask them for help and see if they'll go with you. It does help as they can then give you the daily dosage rather than having to walk to a pharmacy each day. Plus it will give the GP a sense of security, after all it all comes back to him or her. They don't like putting their neck on the line. If this works, lucky you! This is the first stage you need to try, it probably won't work but give it a try. If you have a friend who's a doctor or a family friend then try that route.
Pre-Visit and scoping out the best place to register at: Make some calls and ask before you go to any drug help organisation or charity such as Addaction. It'll save you 5 hours (the time I was waiting rattling before being sent to hospital). Most doctors and drugs workers don't even know what the Ashton Manual is... Seriously. We know more than most of them about these bloody drugs but let me re-iterate what I mentioned earlier, don't profess to know about this stuff, it will only play against you, doctors don't like people who Google things or do research as they don't want you to know about the shit Big Pharma does and the fact that what they are prescribing you is pretty much as untested as research chemicals. So don't hedge your bets on finding some kind-hearted understanding and clued up doctor. Thinking about going to a drug charity? (Addaction,CRI etc) Well, good luck, but in my experience they aren't even aware of RC Benzo's and they don't treat Benzo addiction most of the time. They are severely underfunded and are so busy with Alcoholics, heroin addicts, crack addicts, cocaine addicts and writing up prescriptions for the group that makes up the 99% of drug addicts in the UK together. The sheer scale of opiate addiction and crack addiction makes a case where that's pretty much all they are focussed on and don't have time to read information sheets being sent out by the relevant uk drug research facilities. They are focussed on such a huge task that benzo's don't even show on the radar. But they will soon, but they'll only make a small blip. Consider these statistics and you'll see why they aren't geared up and why they won't gear up or wise up.
The government doesn't give a shit, the people who do care have their hands tied because of this and the strict regulations on Benzo's. There are many caring people within the NHS but the system is so screwed that they can't do their job properly for fear of being fired.
