Death must be momentary
throughout our lives, there is never any length of time longer than an instant that we lose consciousness. We are aware during the day, and there is awareness during dreams. In the states of comas, deep sleep, blackouts, etc, the loss of consciousness is momentary, immediately followed by waking up. If you fall into a coma for 1 hour, the length of time that non-existence occupies is only 1 moment for the individual. Fascinatingly, if one were to fall into a coma for 20 years, the length of time of unconsciousness would also be momentary! The only gaps in our experience are instantaneous, so should we not infer the same thing about death? Death is just another gap in experience. Regardless of how long the death is (it could be an eternity), it would immediately be followed by a resuming of consciousness. We close our eyes for the last time, and the instant later we wake up. Consciousness must roll on!
