Standard vs Wild

Spoilers

Hey returning player here. I've googled this question too but i'm finding it hard to grasp the idea behind it. What actually is the reason behind standard and wild? Like why is it there and what does it serve. Also, should I focus on building decks in standard or wild? thanks in advance
