[QUESTION] Drop D Power Chords?
Hello, Reddit. I've posted some questions here before. I've gained more experience when it comes to the guitar compared to the last time I first asked for help here. (I'm not that great yet though, I'm still practicing my scales and working on my finger Independence and strength!)
However, I just can't get the hang of Drop D power chords. I recently decided to play along with a song I haven't heard in a while. Violent Hill by Coldplay. It's a really simple song. However, it features some power chords in drop tuning, meaning that instead of doing the normal power chord shape, you make a barre shape. It features a riff which goes 4-3-2-1 on the E, A, and D strings. (In the actual song the guitar is tuned a half step down with the low E string all the way down to C# meaning 5-4-3-2 but I'm sure it's not relevant). When I try to play the riff, I can't get all the strings to sound clearly. I can get the E and A strings to sound, but I can't get the D string to ring. It just gets muted instead of being fretted. It's strange because I can play a barre chord at the first fret just fine.
I'll post a link to a live performance so you can hear the riff and see how he plays it. I can play the rest of the song just fine, though. (It's a Coldplay song, so don't be surprised that it's easy lol)

I appreciate your time, Reddit. Thanks!
Update: I got it! I just angled my finger to be more perpendicular to the frets as u/Meowkit described. Thanks to everyone for answering though!
