[Theory] Why there are so few formations.

I do not mean to be an apologist but I can explain this one. I have went through this in my head in an attempt to make a system for this. How I would code it my self and I ran into a problem.

There are too many unit types. In the other total war's in there are far fewer EX: Infantry, Shielded Infantry, Anti-Calvary Infantry, Ranged Infantry, Ranged Siege Equipment, Melee Siege Equipment, Calvary, Shock Calvary, Ranged Calvary, and Support/Heros.

Now with they new system you have to include beasts and fliers as well as units like zombies who are just meat shields. This raises the problem that in many cases each race would have to have its own formations as many of them would not be compatible. I am not saying doing formations would be impossible, just a lot of work.

A solution for this would be to allow us to mod in our own formations. As many members of the modding community would be happy to do so.
