[Question] English language question.

Hey everyone:) so, my English language exam is coming up and I have a question about it. It has two sections, first being personal writing and the second multi modal texts. My question is about personal writing. It often has a question like 'Write a talk to your class about an experience that taught you a lesson', my question is: can I for example write about this one time Ive smoked too much and thought I was going to die or would it be marked down as it is inappropriate? Or does it depend on what format am I writing it in and who am I writing for?
