Best weapons as a function of range?

So, I'm restructuring my ships because I've started to realize that I'm taking a lot of damage before I can fire, so I'm trying to shift my weapons to longer distance weapons. Is there a good guide somewhere on all the weapons that'll help me choose the best long-range weapons?
