[DIPLOMACY] Proposals sent to Dublin

DIPLOMACY

The Belgian Crisis has shown that a peaceful Europe is not a guarantee anymore, the conflict has engulfed Belgium and drawn much of the continental Western Europe into the conflict, much of it based on linguistic and cultural lines.

The United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland know the pain of sectarian conflict all too well, the Troubles having caused intolerable pain on our islands for the best part of three decades.

As such, we feel that increased co-operation between our nations is vital to securing both our nations future's and wish to propose the following agreements:

Mutual Defence Agreement:

With both our nation's close geographic, cultural and political proximity, we would believe any military action against one of our nations, as an attack on the other nation. This would guarantee both our nation's security and allow for greater military co-operation.

British Isles Air Patrol:

With the Irish Air Corps lacking any aircraft capable of air-to-air combat, we propose that fighter aircraft from the Royal Air Force be permitted to enter Irish airspace to intercept any suspicious or threatening aircraft.

As part of this patrol, we would invite pilots from the Air Corps to RAF Coningsby and RAF Lossiemouth where they would (following the necessary training) be allowed to pilot RAF aircraft as part of the joint air patrol.

Further, the Royal Air Force and Irish Air Corps would permit military aircraft from the other country to land at its facilities.

Irish-British Brigade:

Similar in function to the Franco-German Brigade, this unit would be a joint force drawn from the British Army and Irish Army, using assets from both parties, the unit would be permanently based in one location, which would be negotiated upon.

Commitment to the Good Friday Agreement:

We wish to guarantee the Irish commitment to the terms of the Good Friday Agreement and its terms, specifically the Irish commitment to the "consent principle", which makes the decision on the future of Northern Ireland a decision that is made by the people of Northern Ireland, and Northern Ireland alone.

We would also welcome proposals from the Irish Government.
