[TOYS] How to fix sonic screwdriver?

Apologies if this is the wrong sub. My son has an 11th doctor sonic screwdriver toy (hand-me-down from me and mommy of course) and the only way to get it to "sonic" is using the big red button on the bottom. The side button doesn't work anymore. Even then, it only makes sounds when it's in the "open" position. Is there a way to "Doctor" it? Or do I just have to go out and buy a new 12th doctor sonic?
