My family feels like trans needs to "decide if they are a man or a woman".

Today we had a conversation and my dad said "black manwoman", my sister, who is a homophobe herself freaked out and was grossed out. My dad revealed he meant transgenders, my face turned blank. He started talking about that's how modern day society is and stuff.

First of all, my family is ignorant on trans and the LGBT community. A trans is somone who refers to themselves as the opposite gender, it does not mean that they cross dress or do drag, that's one ignorant generalization.

My dad also said back in the 70's when he was a kid it was known as "gender identity disorder", and they changed the name to "transgender". Well my know-it-all dad who actually believes words have power thinks he is a scientist. I'm sorry but the major scientific organizations said it is not a disorder, so who the hell are you????

Homophobes, Biphobes, Transphobes, if you don't support marriage equality, don't you ever use science to back up any of your opinions hypocrites.
