Is unaccompanied rapping music?

Or poetry?

If I randomly start rapping an improvised rap while walking down the street, is that music? Is that poetry?

Doesn't music need a melody or something? Isn't that what separates rap music from, say, slam poetry?

Rap music on the radio usually has a melody and/or other instruments.
