Help with BIOS flash
I have tried to find the answer on the google, but I am having trouble actually understanding the steps. I have a dell xps 15 L501X laptop (windows 10) and I would like to install a version of the BIOS that allows me to disable hyperthreading. I have the version of BIOS, but actually flashing it to the motherboard is where I am at a loss. To my understanding, I need a crisis disk backup of the BIOS first in-case I brick my computer. I have a FAT32 formatted USB and all of the files I need (I think). This is what the readme in the crisis backup of cracked BIOS says to do in order to create a backup:
What you will need (or at least this is what have!)
- One working computer with USB port (Mine Dell Inspiron E1505)
- One USB flash drive (Mine 1GB micro center)
- Phoenix Bios Crisis Recovery program
- The CORRECT phlash16.exe program
- Bios image for Studio XPS 1645 (I have the A03 version in .WPH format)
- One Bricked Studio XPS 1645
- Patience
To make the things easy for you, I will zip all needed files and will try to attach here for download.
Here what you need to do.
- Download the zip file from here
- Extract the contents to any location
- Plugin your USB flash (All information on it will be lost!)
- Navigate to the folder where you extracted the zip file
- Run as Administrator WINCRIS.EXE
- Click START
If everything is ok you will have a bootable flash drive with exactly three files on it
- BIOS.WPH
- MINIDOS.SYS
- PHLASH16.EXE
It does not actually tell me anything about how to flash the new BIOS. Still trying to figure this out.
My questions:
Now can I even do this on windows 10? The program won't run.
Is there other software I can use to create a crisis backup?
To actually update to the cracked BIOS, how do I do that, in DOS? I am confused.
Sorry if it is too much to ask to help me here, but if someone could try I would really appreciate it.
