[PSA] Bleed Mechanics
I've been looking endlessly for information regarding bleed mechanics and all I could find was information on weapons with bleed attributes, how much damage is caused by triggering bleed loss, but all that information still doesn't give us the big picture on bleed. So I decided to conduct some simple tests using the Bloodlust to inflict bleed damage/blood loss on myself. The bloodlust weapon art does 200 damage exactly of bleed damage. Also to be clear: bleed damage refers to the amount of bleed accumulated on the bleed indication bar; blood loss refers to the actual damage taken when the bleed indication bar reaches it's maximum.
- The Bleed Indication Bar
This is the status bar that is on the bottom middle of your screen. If you notice, there are little notches on it, and I counted 10 notches, each notch reprepresents 10 bleed damage, and every 10 notches was grouped up. When naked, you have 20 notches, thus it would take 200 bleed damage to induce blood loss. The Bleed bar decays at a rate of 10 notches every 12.6 seconds when tested naked.
- Bleed Resistance
Through my tests I found that bleed resistance does NOT reduce the amount of blood loss you take, nor the amount of bleed damage you take, but instead it increases the Bleed Indication Bar capacity. Meaning the higher Bleed Resistance you have, the more bleed damage it takes to induce blood loss. However, I also noticed an adverse effect of increased bleed resistance: When naked, for my bleed bar to go down 10 notches, it took 12.6 seconds, but when I had maximum bleed resistance gear (Full Grundyr set, Bloodbite Ring and Fleshbite Ring) it took 18.97 seconds for the bleed bar to go down 10 notches. So it seems that it having higher resistance makes it so that it takes more bleed damage to induce blood loss, but the bleed decay is also slowed.
Here are some images showing the bleed bar , one picture shows the blood bar while naked, one with just Grundyr Set, and one at Grundyr Set and Bleed Resistance Rings.
So i would assume that enemies that are weak to bleed would theoretically have a much smaller bleed status indication bar, such as the big fat hand creatures in profaned capital. haven't done testing for other status effects, but I would think it works the same way mechanics wise. Please let me know what you guys think.
Edit: I just tested the toxic effect by throwing some dung and the resistance functions the same as the bleed, the only difference being the decay rate is different. So perhaps different status effects have different decay rates. But still having more resistance slowed down the decay rate while increasing the maximum amount needed to induce the effect.
