those odd choir members who stand out
So glad I found this subreddit! I haven't sung in a choir for years but still prefer choir music to any other. I really admire singers who can hit a note and hold it, so find myself listening more and more to children's choirs (Libera, that kind of thing). After watching a few videos on YouTube you spot the one kid who stands out as a real individual, while being in total harmony. So this thread is to celebrate them.
Example: in PCSM (Petits Chanteurs de Saint Marc) most of the kids (especially the girls) stand stock still and look so serious. But there's one who dreamily sways her head and really opens her mouth when singing. She has that wonderful French confidence: so relaxed, always looks like she's thinking of something else entirely. yet not a diva: there is no "look at me", she fits in perfectly with the choir. Did a couple of solos, and has a superb voice. Sadly she doesn't feature in the later videos, maybe she was just too relaxed about it all. But it's the individuals who make choirs special.
Any choir members that stand out for you?
.
PS better include a video so you can see what I'm talking about. Here's the first PCSM video I ever saw, and she's the solist: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=41cz6IKMIe4 And here's a later video, where she s just part of the choir. Compare her relaxed look and slight swaying with the music, to the more nervous singer next to her: https://youtu.be/xhv_zgtgQTk?t=1m25s There's one other singer in that choir who stands out to me: a boy in the middle of the front row who shares her confidence. He's more of a star in later videos. But he's also more earnest: he doesn't have her dream-like other worldly detachment. :)
