My opinion on the current state of supports

So, everyone is saying that currently the support role is basically being a healbot, and that the aside from a few exceptions the only thing a supports can do is spam that heal button. And some also say that how Medivh has been advertised so far, that is how supports should look, someone who actually supports their team, and disrupts the enemy. And I tend to agree that the support role might aswell be renamed "Healer.

However, I personally like it the way it is. I come from a WoW background, so having tank, dps and healer is completely normal to me. I like helping my teammates, pushing our advance from the back. Sure, it might not be as flashy as initiating a fight, dishing out large amounts of damage or otherwise doing incomprehensible action things, but landing a perfect palm or ancestral can easily change the tide of battle.

And as much as I like playing support, they are not perfect, which is perfectly fine. They're not ridiculously overpowered, nor are they as useless as your local government, but they are however an essential part of a well balanced team.

My biggest complaint about them is how few of them actually are. The last support that came out was Morales, and she was released on October 6th. Over 7 months ago. Next up we're gonna get a specialist, so best case scenario we get a support in July. That'll make it 9 months. Someone got pregnant, gave birth and we still didn't get a support in the meantime. Ridiculous.

When Chromie was first teased, and I we saw was the silhouette of a dragon, I honestly thought it was gonna be Alexstrasza, and she was gonna be a support. My inner WoW player got a nerdgasm just by thinking about it. I guess Chromie was ok, but it doesn't compare.

And I don't think I'm the only one who enjoys playing support, not despite them being healbots, but because of it. So, to all you warriors, assassins and even specialists who think are "making the game", remember that the only reason you can "make the game" is because WE are keeping you alive.

Tl;dr Healers are the unsung albeit flawed heroes. Gief more.
