GTX 1080 FE owners, how loud are the fans really?

So I sold my GTX 980 Ti under around a week ago, and currently running with no GPU which sucks as I've been borrowing my brother's PC with the R9 390 to play Overwatch. My GTX 1080 FE is arriving Tuesday (which it should have came Friday) so now I'm just speculating on what to do.

I haven't found any really good YouTube videos/reviews which determine typical fan noise when gaming, so what have you guys noticed? Are the fans as obnoxious as the older reference coolers, or are they really a lot more tolerable/quiet?

My 980 Ti which my custom fan curve didn't really ever hit 80 degrees C but was louder than I wanted it to be, if it's anywhere near that I doubt I'd want to keep the FE, especially since Newegg won't take my return once I open it. I was thinking of waiting until the ASUS ROG STRIX is out as I've already been waiting for a week but by then my summer "break" will pretty much be over, and a week without a GPU is already bad.
