Returned to retail, nothing has changed.
So after a year away I've returned to retail...nothing has changed.
I now work at a small chain of camera shops and on Saturdays we close at 5. At 4:50PM we start moving high value product out of the shelves and half-close the shutter doors.
I kid you not, 4:58PM on my first day a top-end Land Rover comes screeching to a halt outside of our doors and a businessy-looking man comes in and starts looking around.
Of course I give him the whole "hey sir, how ya doing can I help you?" shpeel, hoping (nay, praying) that he's one of those customers who knows exactly what he wants. Quick end-of-day sale!
Nope, he vaguely describes an LED video light and asks if we have anything similar in stock. Thankfully, it is now 5PM and I graciously say "Well I'd love to go over some options with you but we are now officially closed. You can come back tomorrow between <hours> and I'd be glad to help you out".
My faith in humanity growing ever weaker, he goes "oh, but I'm busy tomorrow" and walks to the other side of the store to continue browsing. My manager ended up herding him out.
I don't care if you're busy tomorrow. As of right now you're on my time and right now I want to get out of this store and into my A/C car.
