Credit card application question

Hi Reddit,

I've recently graduated from college and I have been interested in getting a credit card to build a credit history. I would use this card as I use my debit card, so I would pay off the balance in full every month. I have not applied for a credit card before, but I have a credit history since I have taken out student loans. I had one question in regards to the application.

I have a job that starts in late September. If I am asked to put an annual salary on the application for my job, what should I put in there? I was thinking of putting my salary that I would be getting once I started but I didn't want to lie on my application as of today. I thought I could apply by using the annual salary that I made while I was in school. My concerns are that I wont get accepted for the card I want and that my credit score will take a hit with a hard inquiry without getting accepted.

If anyone has been in my situation before and has good advice, I would really appreciate that!
