Advice on learning the fundamentals

I know how to use my gear and software fairly well.

But I've been looking up film related stuff I didn't necessarily need for production. Like what is bitrate, why is h 264 the standard, etc.

May you please give me material to search. I wanna understand film from a scientific perspective!
