[Spoilers] Season 1 and 2 - my comparison

Season 2 Spoiler

Here's my take on it. Feel free to let me know your thoughts.

Firstly, I'd like to say I played Season 2 before Season 1. It was free on PS Plus so I gave it a go and thoroughly liked it, so I ended up buying Season 1.

Of course the UI was much clearer and less ugly in Season 2, so that helped. Going from the nice looking UI to this bulky d-pad type cursor felt a bit icky.

Season 2 also seemed to have learnt from how prolonged the objectives were. In Season 1, you could literally search cupboards, drawers, containers and wasting time finding nothing when all you really needed to do to progress as walk out a door. There was never really this problem in Season 2, sneaking in to a house near the beginning of the game - it was pretty straight forward and that - I personally preferred. Especially from an episodic standpoint.

Sometimes in Season 1, when replying to people, on occasions it was ambiguous who you were replying to and in what tone. And in some cases what you'd even end up saying. I had to restart the game once or twice because I ended up not representing the intentions I had originally set out. I never had this problem with Season 2.

Season 1 did however come up on top about others things.

In Season 1 -- the changes you make throughout each episode - I won't say drastically but - far exceeds whatever differences you could have caused in Season 2. Season 2 seemed sloppy - oh look you're now wearing a jacket - is that it? Whoever didn't die in that episode died soon after and the time inbetween where they could have died originally and the last point they die, their involvement in the story is minimal.

The relationships you build in Season 1 were so important, if you acted like a jackass with everyone, they wouldn't help you. In Season 2, oh - they're just talking to you in an angry tone and a few chapters later we're best buds...

I feel those who worked on Season 2 realised how hard, difficult and time consuming it really is to make all these alternatives. Whilst they did improve UI, gameplay and overall player experience, they lacked with the love and support which made Season 1 so good.

That being said, overall... I'm going to say it. I preferred Season 2 more. It felt more like I was watching an interactive TV show and that's how I feel that's how it's supposed to be - right? Regardless, I only started really enjoying Season 1 from Episode 4 onwards and that's pretty late.

I'm going to throw it out there for the funsies too, I hope Season 3 will have Clementine grown up as the protagonist.
