National flags in churches?
Memorial day weekend in US church. For many of us, quite the patriotic event. We even sang the star spangled banner this morning. This is the exception to the rule of course, but every church I've ever been in had had an ever present US flag.
I really don't like it, if Christians are ambassadors of Christ's kingdom, it seems odd for our embassy, the church, to have foreign flags present, our as a place for patriotic celebrations of a foreign country. Seems that time in God's house should be reserved for God.
Totally ok with prayers for the country and its leaders in the service, and I happily fly a US flag at home, but this stuff in a time and place we claim to dedicate to God seems inappropriate.
What are your thoughts?
