Question about income and paychecks!

Hi all! I'm very excited to begin my time as a JET this coming July. I had a question concerning income which I have yet to find an answer about. I'm probably looking in all the wrong places, but I figured asking here was the quickest and most in-depth way of getting an answer.

Basically, my question is: how do you receive your paycheck? Apologies if that sounds naive, but I'd like to have my feet firmly under me before the endeavor begins! I'm assuming paychecks are the standard "take it to the bank and get it cashed" process, as in the US, but how about depositing it? Do you guys have Japanese bank accounts? Or is there a way to set up a deposit to an overseas (home country) account? Ideally, I'd like to keep paying into the checking account that I use now, be it with either direct deposit or maybe a less automated process.

All of my bills in the US are set to auto-deduct, and I was hoping to use my debit card in lieu of setting up a second checking account in Japan and having to redo the process. Last time I was in Japan, I could use my debit card (Visa) at any post office to withdraw money and it was amazingly convenient. How do you all make it work?
