Does Konosuba... get better?

I'm up to episode 4, which is about halfway through this anime.

So I heard a lot about this show being one of the most popular shows of last season. So far, the setting was generic, I get that it was supposed to be based on mainstream fantasy settings, but that's only good if you can play around with the idea and have a unique spin on it.

The characters at least each have an entertaining quirk to them but when it came to depth, I don't feel anything. I think the only time we even got any backstory was when Megumin went on about their heritage or how she got kicked out of her last party.

Pretty much the one redeeming quality so far was the humor, mostly driven by the quirks but there are a lot more shows that do that better. Even Phantom World had some nice themes and emotion for each episode.

I feel like this show must have been popular for a reason though, should I keep watching?
