Machu Picchu Tour Advice Needed

I'm trying to plan a solo trip to Machu Picchu in late July/early August this year and I need some advice. I have already decided that I would like to do an alternative hike, not the Inca Trail, and am leaning towards the Lares Trek. Most of the tours that you can book online seem to be for people that have pre-formed groups and not people wanting to join a group. I know that it's cheaper to book in Cusco once you arrive, but it's also high tourist season and access to the site is limited... would arriving in Cusco two days before I wanted to depart to Machu Picchu be enough time to secure a tour? Is this too big of a gamble? I get really anxious if I don't pre-plan. Thanks for any advice, I know there are lots of Machu Picchu threads.
