Hilariously bad example today that "proves" the church is true

The concluding speaker in SM today was a hyper-confident young executive of a local door-to-door home security/solar company. He wanted everyone to know that a testimony is based on facts. His two examples of historical evidence were:

  1. The BOM has never been disproven (he did not define what he meant by this nor did he identify in which parallel universe he lives).
  2. in 1830, the same year the church was founded, they closed the US Patent office declaring "everything had already been invented." He explained that this was not a coincidence and it proves that the people at that time were cynical and hard headed. But the Lord had other plans and had prepared this as the time to restore the....you get the idea.

Unfortunately, that's not true. Not even remotely. It's an old legend some think is true because Ronald Reagan once referenced a quote made by the director of the USPTO. Except, he never said it. And he wasn't in that post until 1898. Did I mention that he never said this. In fact, no one did. It's a joke/myth.

I'm going to print these actual "facts" out and leave it on his doorstep. Or I just let him continue basing his "knowing" that the church is true on a disprovable myth.
