Me [21F] as I get older I fear my ambitious nature is setting me up for unhappiness
Hello r/Relationships, I'm a long time lurker and have always admired the advice you have given to others and found it very helpful to myself. This is an issue that's been on my mind for a while.
My whole life I've been a very ambitious person, both in school and working towards professional goals. And for the large part I've achieved most of the success that I've worked towards. But as I start to settle into adulthood I fear that my extreme ambition is causing me some other problems. Whenever I achieve something it never feels as good as I thought it would, so then I fantasize and work for the next thing which I build up in my mind.
Basically, I always want something else...and I'm wondering if this is healthy? I don't think the answer is for me to stop working towards my goals. It's not that I'm stressed. I'm just wondering if the fact that I always look towards the next goal is stopping me from enjoying what I have now, and is this a vicious cycle? if so how can I change my mentality?
Thank you reddit!
tl;dr: My extreme ambition always makes it so that the things I achieve are never as good as I imaged they would be. Is this just what life is like or is it a real problem, and if so how can I change my state of mind?
