Mtb shoes

First post to mtb, I love this subreddit, some very great information. Something I haven't found is about shoes in particular. I just bought my first bike a Gt zaskar and have some nice flat pedals. I am looking at getting a nice pair of shoes, I would love to splurge and get it a pair of five tens but the price tag is hard to overcome on Amazon. Anyone have other shoes that they recommend? Also if you truly think clip less is the way to go let me know your pros. I just think clip less are not right for me since I do ride my bike with my son around the neighborhood a couple times a week.
