A Witch's Wares
I am currently running Rise of Tiamat with my group and they seem to be really enjoying it so far. I think as a skeleton of a campaign it is really effective but I've filled it with my own side quests, NPCs and locations.
Right now my players are headed to the Misty Forest to investigate dragon raids. During their exploration they will be lead by some will-o'-wisps to a hag's lair. I'm intending this to be an interesting role-play encounter with potentially serious ramifications further down the line but also an opportunity for my players to get their hands on some out of the ordinary and potentially highly powerful items.
The link to these items are here for your use and advice on balancing or editing: http://www.naturalcrit.com/homebrew/share/B1iLaeLX The link to this wonderful website for making official looking home-brew is here:http://www.naturalcrit.com/homebrew/
The price of these items is not gold but other things like favours.
-
Dao's Finger: The PCs soul on death. The hag knows how powerful this item is so asks for a high price. She knows how much devils will pay for souls in the Nine Hells and so will give the character this item in return for ownership of their soul once they pass. This will make any resurrection attempts almost impossible should this PC die, and will likely require a visit to the hag.
-
Compass of Seeking: The PC replaces their right eye with with a hag eye. Apart from being a painful and potentially dangerous experience this will mean that the hag's coven will be able to see everything this PC can.
-
Corpses' Companion and Doppleblood: For these items the PC owes the hag a favour. This translates to the PC placing a device under Ontharr Frume's (paladin, leader of the Order of the Gauntlet and friend of the party) pillow which will allow a night hag to to teleport to his chambers. The PC is basically required to help this coven corrupt one of their best friend's and a spearhead in the resistance to the BBEG.
-
Ralishaz's Fate-Casting Bones: This item is slightly different. It is intended for a particular player, our (now) chaotic neutral monk/rogue. This guy was at peace with the world but a bit lost (the player was the least experienced of our group and so OOC not as sure of himself).
He is rather morally ambiguous, having cut out a low ranking cult members tongue and had it enchanted so he can speak (but not understand) all languages; struck a deal with a vampire to kill her vampiric husband in return for being made a vampire himself and most recently staring into a powerful divination pool without giving an adequate sacrifice and instead having the dark, empty oblivion that is the multiverse revealed to him instead, which has screwed with his head a bit.
Having been contacted by Ralishaz in a vision and shown how his life could have played out an infinite number of ways; that past, present and future are all happening right at this moment and that choices don't really matter since we have no control of our destiny anyway, he has decided to worship the god of ill-luck and insanity.
The price is "a string of thread". This refers to the strings of thread that Ralishaz showed the PC in his vision. They represent every life that every person might live. This artefact will cost him one of his.
Any and all feedback is much appreciated. Enjoy!
tl;dr: Items a hag would sell. Funky payment method. Please feedback and feel free to use.
