Sending my PC overseas?

I live in the US and I'll be in Germany for about a year, starting in September. I plan to ship my rig over. It's not much - the computer itself and a 21-inch monitor - but I want to make sure it gets across the Atlantic safely and without damage.

What do I need to know? What components should I take out? Are there certain companies I should avoid like the plague?
