Young avocado plant question

Hey guys, looking for help with my avocado plant. We successfully grew a plant from seed and now it's 14" potted plant in our balcony.

It's now at a point of having 4 great leaves on top, getting larger and no longer the vertical path. We have pinched off the initially leaves and the next set of leaves months later but now leaves are getting wider as the only sign of growth of the young plant for past 2-3 months.

At this point, do I pinch the leaves entirely? Do I cut main stem/truck to propagate branching?

I was thinking since all the energy is going towards leaf building, if I half the main stem, branching will have to occur? Looking for some insight, thanks Internet friends!
