Cant get Xbox One controller to even be detected

I just got a new PC with Window 10. It has all of its updates. I am trying to plug in my Xbox One controller to my PC using the USB cable . But when I plug it into my PC nothing happens. It doesnt get detected or even power on the controller. Any idea why?
