First Year Seminars?

In my program, I'm able to pick an elective from the arts/social sciences. In looking for a potential elective, I've been seeing a lot of information regarding first year seminars.

They seem interesting to me (one of the topics appeals to me and I like small class sizes), but I don't understand if they count as a credit in the same way a regular elective does.

If anyone could clarify this for me, it would be greatly appreciated. c:
