Cannot seem to do a simple website transfer from host A to host B. Help?
Hello all,
I recently moved web hosts, and need to transfer my website from my old host to my new, but for some reason, it just is NOT working. As a last resort, I'm here to ask for help, as my website took 3 years to get just the way I wanted it, and I don't want to start over from scratch.
Here's the details:
The only thing that has changed is the host. Same domain name. New host uses C-panel, which is pretty straight forward.
On the old host: Used the PHPmyAdmin panel to do a full export of the database .SQL) and save to local drive. Went into the admin panel of the old wordpress install and exported .XML file as well.
Via FTP, downloaded the entire contents of the old site to local drive.
Installed wordpress on a new database using Cpanel. This was incredibly easy. New installation works fine, made all required changes to nameservers, and those have propagated, and the domain points to the installation.
I then went into the MySQLAdmin panel, chose the correlating database, selected "wp_config.php" from the left hand menu, then did an import of the .SQL database from the old site.
Via FTP, I replaced the "wp-content" folder on the new installation. Checked the wp_config.php file, and all the database changes were correct in that file.
Refreshed the website, logged in and activated my original theme. However, none of the posts, pages, comments, menu structure, nothing is there. It's the "base" wordpress install with the old theme applied.
I have tried this a dozen times now (even importing the .XML" backup as well) and I get nothing.
I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I've followed the tutorials on several sites I found through googling for how to's, but still no love.
Can anyone rescue me?
Thanks!
