For what it's worth!

What good the water drop,

that finds no parched throat ?

nor a patch of green.

What good the pretty face,

that knows not how to smile?

Forever fair, yet mean.

What good the fancy smile,

that soothes no saddened soul?

Shorn of virtuous innocence.

What good the scholarly lore,

that reads no humility?

Ignorance weds arrogance.

What good a sturdy hand,

That feeds no hungry mouth?

Sigh! Spotlessly clean,

And shamefully soft.

What good a thumping heart,

That has never learnt to love?

Ever cold and bitter,

A lot like the frost.

What worth these words,

Bare blots on a paper?

Ever chivying aphorist.

A moral cacophony,

In a melee of meanings,

Never to rouse the spirit.

What worth all this love,

Born of a barren core?

One no one wants to share.

What worth this long life,

That bites the dust in the end?

Numb, broken and bare.
