Broken
I dream
of Dad in his recliner,
the cushions seasoned
by a broken back.
His spine may be torn up
but his eyes are so amber,
a fossil faintly flickers
through the thick of his iris.
I cook for him again –
a dish of hamburger,
smashed with a spatula
into petite grains.
