[RMT] UU FWG Core - M-Sceptile, Scarf Darmanitan, D-Dance Gyarados

rate my team

I've been toying around with a UU Cartridge team for a couple of days and finally settled on what I have now: a FWG offensive core with some item control / priority in Conkeldurr and two support mons in Donphan and Florges!Let me know what I can do to improve. Note: trying to build on cartridge so anything trying to keep my team to something that is obtainable; avoiding legends / hp movesets

Sceptile @ Sceptilite
Ability: Overgrow
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk

  • Giga Drain
  • Leaf Storm
  • Dragon Pulse
  • Substitute

I love FWG cores, and I wanted Sceptile to be the basis of the core because he is so damn fast and powerful. His movepool unforunately blows and is severely limited in what I can use but its manageable. Dual-Grass in Giga Drain and Leaf Storm gives him a spammable grass attack that heals him as well as a power move to get clean up KO's. Dragon Pulse is a nice secondary STAB and a way to clean out every dragon in the tier since none can catch him without scarfs. I opted for Substitute instead if HP Fire (Don't want to try to spent hours on hours and breed for it) and Focus Blast (lost a lot of games for it missing). Its nice to come in on a T-Wave, get the lightning rod boost and set up the sub on a switch. Also helps in predictable sitchesd. A lot of bulky water lurk UU such as Milotic, Swampert and Suicune and Sceptile is my way of taking them out. He can come in on water switch ins for Darmanitan and Gyarados since neither can do much when the opposing mons are at full health.

Darmanitan @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Sheer Force
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature

  • Flare Blitz
  • U-turn
  • Rock Slide
  • Earthquake

By far my favorite pokemon in the whole tier, probably my favorite to use period. He is a monster. Went for Choice Scarf for speed and he makes for a good pivot with U-turn. He is typically my lead. Flare Blitz obliterates everything, picking up a lot of 2HKO's after rocks are down, and a nice late-game sweeper. Earthquake is there since it hits hard and cleans up fire types that come in on him and provides a heavy hitting move to use without burning my HP. Rock Slide is there for Rotom-H really, not sure what else to put there since Superpower can hit things like Porygons but still isnt as strong as Flare Blitz. For me Darmanitan is indispensable. He helps out with bug types like M-Beedrill and Galvantula, the latter causing major problems for my Water and Grass core.

Gyarados @ Lum Berry
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature

  • Waterfall
  • Dragon Dance
  • Earthquake
  • Ice Fang

I always liked using Gyarados, one of my favorite pokemon and works well as a D-Dance sweeper and his movepool is nice for the tier. I went for Intimidate for an ability over Moxie since I appreciate the attack drop and forced switches it causes. Dragon Dance ovecourse is here so I can boost him up for a sweeping. Waterfall is his best STAB for 100% accuracy and I like the flinch chance. Earthquake hits incoming electric types like Ampharos and Helioisk and is generally a powerful move. Ice Fang is for grass types and dragons like opposing Sceptile, Salamence, Shaymin and Hydreigon. This rounds up my FWG core, Gyarados comes in on things like M-Swampert, Feraligator and Tentaruel.

Donphan @ Leftovers
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
Impish Nature

  • Earthquake
  • Rapid Spin
  • Stealth Rock
  • Roar

For my last three mons, I wanted defensive pokemon to take some heat off my FWG core, put down hazards and clean them up, also give me some priority and knock off item clearing. Donphan helps fill a good portion of those rolls since he can do 4 of the 5. However, I began to notice an issue with sweepers such as Gyarados (see below) so instead of Knock Off I went with Roar. Paired with Sturdy, Roar saves my butt when it comes to dealing with set up sweepers when I misplay. Earthquake gives him great STAB, Rapid Spin cleans up hazards for me and Stealth Rocks gives me the all powerful meta defining rocks.

Originally I tested Forretress, but he... just couldnt do anything offensively and just got set-up on. Gligar I liked but Defog Gligar is basically impossible for me to obtain. Mandibuzz was weak to rocks and could get 2HKO's after rocks if I tried to bring him in to clean them up and was also a liability offensively. Tentacruel looks decent but I didnt like having two water types on the team and he cant lay down stealth rocks.

Conkeldurr @ Assault Vest
Ability: Guts
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 SpD
Adamant Nature

  • Mach Punch
  • Knock Off
  • Drain Punch
  • Poison Jab

Conkeldurr I was actually surprised to see drop into UU. (Its been awhile and didnt see him come down) and I loved him so I went with him to provide priority and knock off. Guts-Assault Vest is standard Conk, and this is a pretty standard set. Mach Punch for priority, Knock Off to hit psychics and ghosts and slap some items off, Drain Punch is great STAB and Poison Jab is my last move to hit Fairies that come in. I like Conk because he is so bulky and can be a nice status sponge when I have nobody to take a toxic or burn since he can provide payback for statusing him. He helps lay off some pressure.

Florges-White @ Leftovers
Ability: Flower Veil
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpA
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk

  • Wish
  • Aromatherapy
  • Moonblast
  • Protect

Fairy typing is huge in this tier, and Florges is one of the best clerics in the tier since he is pretty powerful for a wall. Went with Bold (heh) here instead of calm since his special defense is so massive I buffed up his defesnse. Standard Set here nothing crazy. He takes off tons of pressure from my cure from things like Blastoise and Hydreigon that can crush any of my mons with their movepools. My team desperately needs Wish support since Darmanitan can only Flare Blitz so much and my core does not like rocks. I was thinking about swapping Aromatherapy with Toxic but I like getting rid of stray statuses too much and stall teams can kill me with poison.

Other Options

Besides the pokemon I highlighted in Donphans description, I tried Metagross as a hazard setter and Hitmontop for spinning things away but I wanted knock off support which was why I made the switch to Conk and Donphan.

Weaknesses

  • Opposing Gyarados; I have nothing really to take them out when they start D-Dancing except for rocks down to help or sacrificing something. I can easily misplay and lose to a Gyarados. I am not sure what to do to my team to stop him, most of my loses come from a Gyarados sweep.

  • Nidoking/Nidoqueen; both typing and movepool really put a stress on me. A Nido carrying Earth Power, Sludge Wave, Ice Beam and Thunderbolt 2HKO's at best my whole team and with decent predicting they can screw me. If one is dumb enough to stay in on a donphan thinking Ice Beam can kill me off I can take it out but besides that its tough to handle without sacking something.

  • Mega-Aggron; he can be a pain but I think he is for everyone. Conk can handle him one on one but at times he can be frusturating to handle.

I'm seeing a big weakness to Sylveon and Mega Aerodactyl, as well as Entei. I think Conk needs to go, since it's just asking to get nuked by Sylveon. I'd suggest Cobalion in that spot, but you said legends weren't an option. Maybe a Jolly Lucario with Bullet Punch and EQ to help with Aero and Nidos would work. There are some other cores I wish could fit on the team instead of Donphan and Conk, such as Bronzong + Tentacruel or Forretress + Milotic, but that you unfortunately leave you without fighting coverage and no way to break Blissey or Snorlax.

I also think you should run Stone Edge / Head Smash > Roar on Donphan so that you can hit Aerodactyl. It also hits Gyarados, which is nice.

You should be OK versus the common Sub DD Gyarados sets since Sceptile can sub on the Bounce and then Giga Drain. You can run Protect if you want more security. Move the 4 EVs to defense so it's less likely for +1 Waterfall to break the sub.

Run Synthesis > Protect on Florges so that you can have 1 turn recovery. If you really prefer WishTect then run Sylveon. You can optionally run 20 speed EVs on Florges to outrun max speed Adamant Conk. Honestly, I think it would be best to change Florges to a Calm Mind variant. You're not going to be able to pass Wishes to something as frail as Darmanitan most of the time. Calm Mind Florges can also beat the Nidos 1 on 1 once you get a couple of Calm Minds up.

Thank you for the advice, calm mind Florges swept a few teams for me so I like it a lot.

I may end up genning some things such as a Cobaltion just to give it a shot, Lucario is nice but pretty frail
